Clemson defeats Furman 3-0

CLEMSON, SC–Jenny Anderson scored two goals in leading Clemson to a 3-0 win over Furman in a women’s intercollegiate soccer match at Clemson, SC Friday night.

With the win, Clemson improves to 3-0, while Furman falls to 0-3 this season.

The game was played in front of 3,928 fans, the second largest crowd in Clemson history.

Both of Anderson’s goals came off of direct kicks, one was from 22 yards out and the other just outside the box from 18 yards out. She now has two goals this season. Anderson scored early in the second half (46:48), and later at the 65:25 mark.

Clemson’s Lindsay Browne scored her second goal of the season as she blocked a pass from the Furman goalkeeper Andie Hinshaw. The two players collided and Browne knocked in the loose ball in from close range at the 83:12 point.

Clemson outshot Furman 29-7. Hinshaw had eight saves for Furman.

“It was a solid performance tonight,” said Clemson Head Coach Todd Bramble. “After the first 15 minutes, we settled down and played well. We have a great balanced attack. We attack from all directions. Our defense is playing great. I like our attitude on defense and the tenacious play of our athletes. Our forwards have a great rotation. We have five forwards we can rotate in the game.

“We had a great crowd tonight. We appreciate everyone’s support of our program.”

Clemson will play host to Richmond on Sunday, September 5, at 2:00 p.m. in the Lady Tigers’ next action.
