Clemson defeats Coastal Carolina 2-0 in Men’s NCAA Soccer

CLEMSON, SC-Dane Richards and Hector Quintanar both scored goals in leading Clemson to a 2-0 win over Coastal Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament at Clemson, SC Friday night.

Clemson improves to 12-5-3 overall, while Coastal Carolina finishes the year with an 11-9-1 record overall.

Richards scored on an unassisted play at the 21:31 mark. He beat two defenders in the box and rifled a shot to the back of the nets from eight yards out for his ninth goal of the season.

Quintanar scored at the 27:41 for his fourth goal of the season. Randy Albright played the ball to Quintanar who scored from 12 yards out for his fourth goal of the season.

“Obviously we are extremely excited with our win tonight,” said Clemson Head Coach Hector Quintanar is playing really well. Randy Albright is playing with a lot of confidence. We had three good days of practice this week and we have people stepping up and playing well. We want to give Coastal Carolina credit tonight. They have a good program and we are extremely happy to get the win.”

Clemson will play N.C. State in the second round in Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, November 22.
