Clemson Defeats Boston College 5-2

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson defeated Boston College 5-2 in a men’s Atlantic Coast Conference tennis match at Clemson, SC Friday afternoon.

With the win, Clemson improves to 16-6 overall and 2-4 in the ACC. The Tigers are ranked 43rd nationally according to the latest ITA poll. Boston College is 8-11 overall and 0-7 in league play.

Clemson won the doubles point as the Tigers swept all three matches. The Tigers went up 2-0 as Kevin Galloway defeated Alex Skinner 6-1, 6-1 at number three singles.

Gera Boryachinskiy defeated the Eagles’ Erik Kreutzer at number four singles 6-4, 6-1 to give Clemson a 3-0 advantage. Wes Moran defeated Jonathan Schroeder of Boston College at number five singles 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the match for the Tigers and give Clemson a 4-0 lead.

Carlos Alvarez of Clemson defeated Akash Muppidi at number two singles 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 as the Tigers went up 5-0.

Boston College won at number six and number one singles as Brian Locklear defeated Moritz Dettinger and Thomas Nolan defeated Derek DiFazio respectively.

Clemson will play host to ACC foe Maryland on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. The match was moved up one hour from its initial start time of 10:00 a.m.

“It was a very good win for us,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck McCuen. “I thought we competed from the first to the last point. We played a complete match. I am pleased with the high energy level that was displayed today. The injuries we have had this season has forced us to play with different lineups. The chemistry was good today, and I thought we played much better. We now have to prepare for a much improved Maryland team coming in here on Sunday.”
