Clemson defeats Alabama-Birmingham 2-0 in men’s exhibition soccer

Aug. 21, 2004

CLEMSON, SC–Justin Moore and Olatomiwa Ogunsola scored goals for Clemson in the Tigers 2-0 win over Alabama-Birmingham in a men’s exhibition soccer match at Clemson, SC Saturday night.

Moore scored an unassisted goal at the 79:24 mark off a direct kick. Ogunsola scored with 2:25 left to go in the game as he drove down the field and fired a 12 yard diagonal shot past the Blazer’s keeper Melford James in a one-on-one situation.

“I thought our young people played well tonight,” said Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair. “I though Nathan Sturgis, Mark Buchholz, and Havird Usry did well for their first time in a game situation. Both goals were excellent goals. Moore’s free kick was world class.

“Olatomiwa’s break away showed his athleticism. We had a lot of chances tonight with 24 shots. We will have to work on our finishing. Defensively we did well, but we will still have some work to do. I thought our fitness level was good and I think that made the difference. We still have a few people out with injuries and it will be good to get them back.”

Clemson will play host to Georgia State on Friday, August 27, in the final exhibition for the Tigers this season. The Tigers will open the 2004 season with a match against Lipscomb on September 1, at Riggs Field.
