Clemson Concludes Preparation for ACC Indoor Championships

Clemson, SC – Clemson track & field teams finalized their preparations for the 2009 ACC Indoor Championships on Saturday at the school’s final home indoor meet of the season, the Tiger Invitational. Clemson had a pair of winners Saturday in Alex Padgett (weight throw) and Kathleen Majester (pole vault).

Padgett produced a personal best in the 35-pound weight throw and won in convincing fashion. The red-shirt sophomore out of Rock Hill, SC hit a distance of 59’4″, nearly a full foot further than his previous best. His 59’4″ mark ranks sixth on the Clemson all-time indoor performance list. Stephen White finished third in the event with a mark of 50’7″.

Ra’Sheena Parker competed in the short sprints for the Clemson women’s team. The Central, SC product was seventh in the 60m (7.96) and 14th in the 200m dash (26.71). Amanda Nelson placed sixth in the 800m run (2:24.68).

A trio of Tigers competed in the women’s mile, led by Lauren Klas (5:20.87) and Lisa Brown (5:21.42), who finished fourth and sixth respectively. Brannon Sulka, a freshman from Bluffton, SC, was 14th in the 3000m run with a time of 11:26.87.

Majester’s pole vault win came with a 10’11.75″ clearance. She cleared in less attempts than Mary Barron from Samford, who was runner-up. Kristin Zeleznik and Carlin Bartlett placed third and fourth, respectively, for Clemson at 10’6″.

In other field event action, John Oberg was runner-up in the men’s pole vault with a 15’1″ clearance, while Scott Pauga placed third in the high jump after going up over the bar at 6’4.25″.

The ACC Championships will be held next Thursday, February 26 through February 28 in Blacksburg, VA at Rector Field House.
