Clemson Beats Auburn to Advance to NCAA Round of 16

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s team advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 for the seventh time in the last eight seasons with a 5-0 win over Auburn (17-11) at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Saturday. Clemson (22-6) advances to Athens, Ga. to play Duke in the Round of 16 on Thursday at 7 p.m.

After the match was delayed a little more than an hour due to rain, Clemson cruised to the doubles point and four straight-set singles wins. The team will make its 12th all-time appearance in the Round of 16, and the ninth since 2004. Clemson improved to 4-1 on the season against SEC teams. 

Clemson claimed the doubles point with big wins on courts one and two after dropping the decision on court three. Yana Koroleva and Beatrice Gumulya took down the nation’s No. 15 doubles team of Burgmans and Flickinger, 8-4, and Romy Koelzer and Tristen Dewar won, 8-3 on court two. 

In singles play, Dewar and Gumulya each won 6-1, 6-0 decision on courts four and three, respectively, to give Clemson a 3-0 lead. Joana Eidukonyte and Jessy Rompies finished simultaneously on courts five and six to clinch the match and send the Tigers to Athens.
