Clemson Athletics To Host 12th One Clemson…Solid Orange Event Saturday At 11:00 a.m.

CLEMSON, SC – Once again, Clemson Athletics is encouraging all Tiger fans to show their spirit and wear orange for the One Clemson…Solid Orange event that will take place on Saturday, March 27th, as Head Coach Nancy Harris’s women’s tennis team plays host to the University of Maryland. The match between the 20th-ranked Tigers and the 60th-ranked Terrapins will be held at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center and is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. The first 100 fans attending the event on Saturday will receive a complimentary One Clemson…Solid Orange t-shirt.

On Sunday, Clemson will play host to #62 Virginia at 12:00 p.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Tigers, currently ranked 20th by the ITA, are 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Last week, the team posted wins over #36 Arizona State (4-3), #47 Colorado (6-1) and #64 Boise State (5-2), and fell to #21 Brigham Young (3-4).

Clemson is 20-3 all-time against the Terrapins. Last season, the Tigers won a 5-2 decision over Maryland in College Park. The 60th-ranked Terrapins are 5-6 overall and 0-1 on the season after falling to Florida State by a score of 5-2 in their ACC opener last weekend.

The Tigers hold a 23-3 series advantage over Virginia. In 2003, then-25th-ranked Clemson upset then-22nd-ranked Virginia by a score of 5-2 in Charlottesville. This season, Virginia, ranked 62nd in the latest ITA poll, is 9-6 overall and 0-1 in the ACC, most recently falling to Virginia Commonwealth by a score of 5-2. The Cavaliers are scheduled to play Georgia Tech on Saturday before facing the Tigers on Sunday.

During the 2003-2004 season, at selected men’s and women’s basketball, men’s soccer and baseball games, an additional fee will be applied to each game ticket sold for the designated One Clemson…Solid Orange event. The proceeds from the One Clemson event will be used for specific One Clemson academic efforts. The One Clemson concept recognizes the strength of unity in everything we do as a University. The One Clemson Fund supports the University’s academic goals that will further enhance the ability of Clemson University to make for a stronger South Carolina and nation.

Clemson teams are currently 9-2 in 2003-04 One Clemson…Solid Orange events. To date, the Clemson University Athletic Department has generated $39,015 for the One Clemson Fund. At the final One Clemson…Solid Orange event of the year, the April 7th baseball game against the University of South Carolina, a check will be presented to Clemson University.
