Clemson Announces Fall Schedule

CLEMSON, S.C – The Clemson men’s golf team will play four tournaments as part of its 2015-16 season that kicks off September 11.   All four events are national in scope as the Tigers will travel to Georgia, Tennessee, and Oregon during the fall.

Larry Penley’s team opens the fall season at the Carpet Capital Classic at The Farm Country Club in Dalton, Ga. Sept. 11-13.   This will be the 24th consecutive year Clemson has played in the Carpet Capital Classic.  Eight of the top 25 teams in the nation in the 2015 preseason poll will be in the field of 14 teams.

Two weeks later the team travels to Kingston T.N. to compete in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup  at the Golf Club of Tennessee.   That September 25-27 event features an all ACC and SEC field.  After two days of stroke play the teams will play a match play competition on Sunday featuring an ACC team against an SEC team.

Clemson makes it longest trip of the fall to the Nike Elite Invitational in North Plains, Ore. at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, October 4-6.   The Tigers hope this is one of three trips to the Oregon this year as the team will play in a tournament in Bandon, Ore in the spring and the NCAA Championship will be held at Eugene, Ore in late May.

The Tigers finish the fall season, Oct. 16-18 in Alpharetta, Ga. at the Golf Club of Georgia for the U.S. Collegiate Championship, a tournament that will feature teams from the ACC, the SEC, the Big 12 and the Big Ten.

“This will be a great, challenging schedule,” said Head Coach Larry Penley, who has been Clemson’s head coach since the fall of 1983.  “It won’t take long to see how we stand nationally.  We need to get off to a good start.  We have a veteran team with four seniors and two juniors.  I know they are anxious to play against the best teams in the nation.”
