Clemson and Winthrop Play to a 0-0 Tie

Aug. 24, 2008

ROCK HILL, SC – Clemson and Winthrop played to a 0-0 tie in a men’s exhibition soccer match at Rock Hill, SC Sunday night.

Clemson took nine shots compared to Winthrop’s 10. The Eagles also had seven corner kicks to the Tigers’ three. Joseph Bendik had three saves for the Tigers in goal and Patrick Mitrovich had four for Winthrop.

Clemson will open the 2008 season this Friday night at South Carolina in Columbia, SC at 7:00 p.m. This will be Head Coach Trevor Adair’s 14th season at Clemson.

“This was a good dress rehearsal before the season starts,” said Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair’s.

“Winthrop is a very good team and I was pleased with the way we played. We had three good chances in the second half but did not capitalize. I was glad to get 80 minutes from Greg Eckhardt and 90 minutes from Francklin Blaise in the back. Our goalkeeper Joseph Bendik has not allowed a goal in two and one half games during the preseason. We had some players come off the bench and do a great job. Tommy Drake continues to improve and did a great job tonight. Bryson Moore did an outstanding job and played a great match.”

“Overall coming on the road and creating chances the way we did is very encouraging. We need to be sharper around the goal. We played a lot of young people tonight and this will help us as we start the season.”
