Clemson and Oklahoma Announce Series

Dec. 17, 2001

Clemson, SC – Clemson Athletic Director Bobby Robinson has announced that Clemson and Oklahoma have agreed to a two-game series in football. Clemson will play at Oklahoma on September 20, 2008 and Oklahoma will come to Clemson on September 17, 2011.

It will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 1988 season when Clemson defeated Oklahoma in the 1989 Florida Citrus Bowl, 13-6. Clemson was the first ACC team to defeat Oklahoma in that contest. Oklahoma defeated Clemson in Norman, OK in 1963 and 1972 and holds a 2-1 advantage in the series.

Oklahoma was the sixth winningest program in the history of college football entering the 2001 season. The Sooner program has won the Associated Press National Championship seven times, second only to Notre Dame’s eight. That includes the 2000 season when Oklahoma had a perfect 13-0 record.

Earlier Robinson announced two-game series with Georgia (2002 and 2003), Texas A&M (2004 and 2005), and Auburn (2006 and 2007).
