Aug. 20, 2006

CLEMSON, SC–Clemson and Creighton played to a 2-2 tie at the Akron Men’s Soccer Tournament in exhibition action Sunday in a battle of two top 10 teams.

Clemson is ranked fifth in the NSCAA poll, while Creighton is ranked eighth.

It was a rematch of the NCAA Tournament’s Final Eight match last season that the Tigers won in the last minute of regulation at Clemson, SC.

Clemson scored first as Tate Parrish scored at the 17:10 mark with an assist by Mark Buchholz.

Creighton evened the score late in the first half (40:59) as Tyler Stansberry converted his penalty kick.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead as Michael Brooks scored with an assist by Greg Eckhardt at the 64:11 point. Eckhardt crossed the ball to Brooks who headed the ball into the goal.

Creighton tied the score again at the 68:53 mark as the Tigers had a defensive miscue and an attempted clearance by a Clemson defender went into the Tigers’ goal for an own goal.

“We played very well today,” said Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair. “We gave up a penalty kick and an own goal. We scored two great goals in the match. I was pleased with our effort. A lot of questions were answered this weekend. This is a good team and I am well pleased with our play this weekend.”
