Clemson, SC-Cliff Hammonds, Elizabeth Jobe and Meghan Steiner were inducted into the Clemson Academic Hall of Fame within the Clemson Athletic Department at Vickery Hall on Tuesday night at the department’s annual Academic Honor Roll Banquet. The event honored all student-athletes who had been named to the honor roll (3.0 GPA) over the last two semesters.

Hammonds, a senior on the Clemson men’s basketball team who was named to he CoSIDA Academic All-District III team last week, joined women’s soccer player Elizabeth Jobe and volleyball player Meghan Steiner in being named to the Academic Hall of Fame.

Hammonds and Jobe were two of the three student-athletes who won the Cecil Huey Award. Men’s Swimmer Matt Balderston also won the honor, which is given to graduating student-athletes who demonstrate academic and athletic achievement while adhering to high ethical standards.

Two Clemson football players, Jamarcus Grant and Rashaad Jackson, were recipients of the Academic Achievement Award. This award is given to student-athletes who have made a significant and consistent improvement over their academic career.

Six student-athletes were honored for their community service with Top Six Awards. The recipients were Matt Balderston from the men’s swimming team and Lindsey Jackson from the women’s soccer team. Carter was singled out with the Bill D’Andrea Service Award as a student-athlete who, “demonstrates commitment to academics, devotion to service and excellence in leadership.”

Also honored were the top student-athletes in terms of GPA for each team and the teams that had the top GPAs for each of the last two semesters. The men’s soccer and women’s swimming teams had the top GPAs for the spring of 2007, while the men’s tennis and women’s soccer teams won the award for this past fall.
