Clemson 16th in Preseason Men’s Golf Poll

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson is ranked 16th in the preseason Golf World/Nike Division I Golf coaches poll for 2011-12. The Tigers are third among ACC teams as league rivals Georgia Tech (4) and Duke (8) are preseason top 10 squads. Virginia is also ranked in the top 25 with a number-21 ranking.

UCLA is the preseason number-one team, while Oklahoma State is ranked second. Oklahoma State had nine first-place votes to just UCLA’s eight, but the Bruins had more total poll points (461-449). Alabama is ranked third followed by Georgia Tech and Texas.

Two time defending NCAA Champion Augusta State is ranked 22nd in the preseason poll.

Clemson opens its season on September 9 at the Carpet Classic in Dalton, GA, the earliest opener to the Tigers season since the 2007-08 campaign when Clemson played in the Topy Cup in Japan. That tournament started on September 4.
