Bek, Hadziselimovic in Finals at ITA Carolina Regional Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Ina Hadziselimovic in her doubles final. Clemson entered the day with three players in the final eight, but due to the bracket, two Tigers were eliminated against their teammates in the singles championship.

Freshman Ina Hadziselimovic, 6-3, 6-3. She was then pitted against fellow Tiger Josipa Bek, who defeated NC State’s Sandyha Nagaraj, 7-5, 6-3. Bek, ranked ninth nationally and the #2 overall seed in the tournament, then defeated Ciolkowski in the final four to earn a spot in the finals against Duke’s Reka Zsilinszka, who is ranked 13^th in the nation in singles.

Bek then teamed with Ina Hadziselimovic to defeat Monday’s singles opponent Zsilinszka and her teammate Liz Plotkin, 9-8, to earn a spot in the finals. The Tigers 14^th-ranked duo will play against Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski, who are ranked fifth in the nation.

In consolation singles action, a trio of Tar Heels knocked out a trio of Tigers. Haley Hemm defeated Estefania Balda 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Jennifer Stone then beat Caroline Magnusson 6-2, 7-5, and Zoe DeBruycker beat Laurianne Henry 6-2, 6-0. Two of the Tar Heels had been knocked out by Tigers on Friday; Hemm was eliminated by Hadziselimovic and Stone fell to Ciolkowski earlier in the tournament.

Winners of the Regional Tournament will be entered into the ITA National Indoor Championships, held in New Haven, CT from Nov. 6-8.
