Baseball Pounds Wake Forest 10-2

CLEMSON, SC – Fourth-ranked Clemson used a five-run sixth inning and hit three home runs in the game to defeat Wake Forest, 10-2, on Friday night at Tiger Field in Clemson, SC.

With the victory, Clemson improved to 26-3 overall and 4-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference whiel Wake Forest dropped to 18-11 and 3-6 in league play. The Demon Deacons jumped out to a 2-1 lead after three innings, scoring in the second on a RBI groundout by Sunny Chiou and in the third on a RBI single by Jon Palmieri. From there it was all Clemson as the Tigers scored nine unanswered runs, including five in the sixth inning. Matt Padgett, Kurt Bultmann and Brian Holstad all hit home runs for the Tigers. Palmieri and Ben Danosky both finished the evening with two hits in four at bats for Wake Forest.

Sophomore Jeremy Ward (3-5) took the loss for the Demon Deacons, allowing eight runs, six of which were earned, on eight hits and three walks while striking out six in 5 1/3 innings of work. Clemson’s Ryan Mottl (7-0) earned the win after holding the Deacs to two runs on six hits in eight innings of work.

Wake Forest and Clemson will continue their three game series on Saturday at 7 p.m. and will conclude the series on Sunday at 2 p.m.
