Basadonna to Compete in World Rowing Championships

CLEMSON, SC – Senior Clemson rower Laura Basadonna will compete in in the World Rowing Championships in Chungju, South Korea beginning on Sunday. The Tiger standout will represent Italy in the 4- and 8 events.

Basadonna is the only Clemson rower ever to compete in the (Senior) World Rowing Championships. This will be her second appearance at the World Rowing Championships following a fifth-place finish in the 4- event in 2011 in Bled Blejsko Jezero, Slovenia.

“Laura is really excited to be a part of the Italian 8 and 4- crews for the racing at the 2013 World Rowing Championships,” said Clemson head coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “It is an impressive achievement for her, as such a young athlete, to be asked to race in two events at the World Championships. Everyone here at Clemson is very proud of her.”

The Torino, Italy native will also make her ninth world championship appearance overall. Earlier this summer, she finished ninth at the U23 World Rowing Championships with Italy in the 4- event in Linz Ottensheim, Austria.

Basadonna was named second-team All-American and first-team All-South Region following the 2013 season. She was also named a College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athlete and was an Academic All-ACC selection.

Full coverage of the event, including results, will be available at WorldRowing.com.
