Men’s tennis player Yannick Maden and women’s track and field athlete Brianna Rollins were recently named the 2012-13 AgSouth Homegrown Student-Athletes of the Year at Clemson University.  The award takes into account performance on the field and in the classroom.

The student-athletes were honored at Doug Kingsmore Stadium prior to the second game of a baseball double header between Clemson and Maryland on Monday, May 6.  Clemson Assistant Track & Field Coach Adrain Mann accepted the award on behalf of Rollins on Monday.

Maden, a senior majoring in financial management, was recently named to the 2013 All-ACC Men’s Tennis Team for the second time in his career.  The native of Stuttgart, Germany has a 25-7 overall record and a 19-4 mark in dual match play this year and is currently ranked 23rd in the nation in singles.  Maden and his brother Dominique have a 22-6 overall record in doubles, a 12-3 record in dual matches and a No. 11 national ranking.

Maden and the rest of the Tiger men’s tennis team will travel to Knoxville, TN to face Boise State in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 10.  Maden also received a bid to play in the 2013 NCAA Individual Singles Tournament, and, with his brother, will compete in the NCAA Individual Doubles Tournament on May 22-27 in Urbana, IL.

Rollins, a senior PRTM major, won the 2013 NCAA National Championship in the 60 meter hurdles in March and set the NCAA record with a time of 7.78 in the event earlier this season as well.  The Miami, FL native won ACC Championships in the 60 hurdles, 100 hurdles, outdoor 200 dash, and with the 4×100 relay in 2012-13.  She was named ACC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year in March and currently is atop the national leaderboard in the 100 hurdles.

Rollins and the Clemson track and field team will split up to compete at meets at Georgia Tech and Virginia on May 10-11, and then will turn their attention to the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Greensboro, NC on May 23-25 and the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, OR on June 5-8.
