#23 Miami Defeats Clemson, 7-0

MIAMI, Fla. – Miami defeated Clemson 7-0 in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s tennis match at Miami, FL Saturday.

Miami improves to 3-2 this season. The Hurricanes are ranked 23rd in this week’s ITA poll, and Clemson is ranked 63rd. Clemson falls to 3-3 on the year. It was the first ACC match of the season for both teams.

At number one singles, Christian Blocker of Miami defeated Carlos Alvarez 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Blocker teamed with David Simon at number one doubles and the duo defeated the Tigers’ Gera Boryachinskiy and Rok Bizjak 8-6.

Clemson will play host to Furman on Wednesday, February 11, at 2:00 p.m. in the Tigers’ next action. This will be the 92nd meeting between the Clemson and Furman on the tennis courts. The Tigers lead the overall series 72-18-1. Furman is one of Clemson’s oldest rivals as the two teams first met on April 17, 1923 with the Tigers winning 3-0 that day in a match played at Clemson.

“We lost to a very good and competitive Miami team,” said Clemson Head Coach Carlos Alvarez is a tremendous competitor. Gera Boryachinskiy is much improved this season. He is playing more aggressive. This was a tough loss against a very good Miami team, and now we must regroup and prepare for Furman.”
