2017-18 Track & Field Schedule Announced

CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson track & field head coach Mark Elliott announced the Tigers’ 2017-18 track & field schedule Wednesday, which is highlighted by six indoor meets, including the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 22-24). Clemson will kick off the season Dec. 9, hosting the Clemson Opener, a one-day meet featuring Bethune-Cookman, Emmanuel College, the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, J.C. Smith, New Orleans, North Florida and Tennessee Tech.

“Our indoor track is one of the best tracks in the country. In terms of hosting the meets and the caliber of teams that are coming, it’s a true testament to our track,” said Elliott. “I’m really excited for our team with the new additions that we have and our expectations this year from a conference and NCAA standpoint. It’s very good for us to be able to host such high quality meets. We’re extremely excited for the indoor season and we can’t wait to get started.”

In addition to the Clemson Opener, the Tigers are scheduled to host several elite teams at the Orange & Purple meet (Jan. 6), the Clemson Invitational (Jan. 19-20), the Bob Pollock (Jan. 26-27) and the Tiger Paw Invite (Feb. 9-10). The Tigers will host the 2018 ACC Championships for the first time on the banked track, which was installed in 2016 at the indoor complex. Clemson last hosted ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships in 2014.

Outside of hosting six indoor meets, Clemson travels to Texas A&M (Jan. 12-13), the site of the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships (March 9-10), and the University of Kentucky (Feb. 2-3).

“With Texas A&M hosting this year’s NCAA Indoor Championships, getting our team on their track early in the season will be a great experience for them, especially for some of the new student-athletes that have never ran on it before.”

For the 2018 outdoor season, the Tigers will travel to 10 different meets, including the Texas Relays (March 29-31), Penn Relays (April 26-28) and ACC Outdoor Championships (May 10-12) in Miami, Fla., Clemson will open the outdoor season on March 16 for the first day of the 49er Classic, a two-day meet hosted by Charlotte.

The NCAA East Preliminary Round is set for May 24-26 in Tampa, Fla., with the championship meet again held in Eugene, Ore., from June 6-9.

“The good thing about our outdoor schedule is that we’re going to some of the best meets in the country, including the Texas Relays and Penn Relays, for example. So a lot of the same teams that we see at our indoor meets, we’ll compete against at their outdoor meets.”
