2002 ACC Baseball Tournament Coaches Quotes

Recap| Box Score

Clemson assistant coach Tim Corbin:

“We were just doing what we had to do, that was it, he (Jack Leggett) was calling but Sullivan was talking to him.”

(About Clemson’s offense) “I was thinking about it last night, push the action a little bit. Kyle (Frank) had a big bunt, and both these guys on my right had big days. (Jeff) Baker wanted to have a big day and he did. He hit the ball hard every single at bat, and Kyle got several big hits today.”

(On Khalil Greene’s bunt) “Both he (Greene) and Baker, when they see the third baseman back, they are both capable of dropping a ball down and beating it out. That is always there for them, and he saw it there and wanted to do something with it. Khalil had another pretty good day. He got a hard hit ball and I was pretty sure that ball on the right center field gap was going to get there. The guy made a nice play, but with the wind going out I thought it was going to find its way to the wall.”

NC State head coach Elliott Avent:

“Well, it’s never easy when you play your last game of the season. I will say this, I am really proud of my guys. Today’s effort was even better than yesterday’s. Great Clemson ball club … I think they were No. 1 in the country nine weeks in a row. They played outstanding. I thought we played really well, and I had that feeling all day. This morning, before the game, I went to talk to the team as well as all throughout the course of the game, I thought this was going to be our day. Congratulations to Clemson.”

“I thought he (Tyler Lumsden) pitched outstanding. We knew why he was pitching against us because it is a tremendous ballpark and it plays a lot friendlier to right field than it does to left and center. Two of our bigger hitters are Brian Wright and David Hicks, and Lumsdon negates that a little bit and he had a tremendous outing. I think in pitching against Wake Forest, he kept Clemson No. 1 in the country, and he was rewarded for that effort by coming out and seeing if he could do it in another pressure situation. He was up to the task.”
