Aug. 22, 2000

CLEMSON, SC–The Clemson women’s soccer team had the nation’s eighth best recruiting class according to Soccer Buzz.Com, an internet site devoted to women’s soccer. This is the highest Clemson has ever been ranked by the internet site since they have been ranking women soccer recruiting classes.

The Clemson freshmen class includes: Lindsay Browne, F, 5-5, Encinitas, CA, CA, Katie Clifton, M, 5-4, Raleigh, NC, Leigh Ann Harrison, G, 5-11, Simpsonville, SC, Allison Mitchell, M, 5-6, Knoxville, TN, Tanya Peterson, B, 5-5, Glen Ellyn, IL, Alison Sinclair, B, 5-5, Milwaukee, WI, Jami Walker, m, 5-2, Liverpool, NY.

“This recruiting class is clearly the best overall class we have had since the inception of the program in 1994 when the Lady Tigers were the first program in NCAA history to make the National Tournament in their first varsity season,” said Head Coach Ray Leone.

“When we started making our recruiting evaluations this summer we knew exactly the kind of student-athlete we wanted. We wanted committed student-athletes on and off the field with the same desires that we have to be a part of a championship program.

“We believe this recruiting class has outstanding talent combined with the experience we already have should give the Lady Tigers an excellent chance to reach new levels in the 2000 season and beyond.”

The Clemson Women Soccer Team will open the 2000 season this weekend as the Lady Tigers play host to the Clemson/Nike Kick Off Classic featuring Clemson, Georgia State, Old Dominion, and UCLA. Ga. State will play Old Dominion at 4:30 p.m. and Clemson will play UCLA at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, August 27, Georgia State will play UCLA at 12:00 p.m. and Old Dominion will play Clemson at 2:00 p.m.
