March 19, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson rowing team will host four teams in the Clemson Sprints Saturday, March 20 on Lake Hartwell at 9:00 a.m. Crews from Alabama, Indiana, Marist and Purdue will race along with the Tigers in six 2000 meter races.

“We look forward to racing multiple crews from across the nation and thankful they decided to train and race in Clemson,” said Head Coach Richard Ruggieri. “The ability to lineup with up to five crews in one race this time of year will prepare us well for the future. Being at the start with many unknowns will allow us to focus upon what we need to do to row our best.”

The regatta will begin with the first race beginning at 9:00 a.m. and will pit the varsity eight boats from each school. Then the second varsity eights from each school will take to the water at 9:20 a.m.

In the third race of the morning at 9:40 a.m., the varsity four boats of Clemson and Indiana will compete, along with the Tigers second and third varsity four boats, Indiana’s second varsity four and Purdue’s novice four. Then the novice eight boats from each school will compete at 10:00 a.m.

The second novice eight boats of Indiana, Purdue and Alabama will compete at 10:20 a.m. and the third varsity eight boats of Alabama and Purdue will compete in the final race at 10:40 a.m.

Last Saturday the Tigers had a strong day as they took four out of the five races against Boston University.
